WHM Spotlight - Caitlin Traub

As part of RealManage’s Women’s History Month series, we’re proud to highlight the leaders whose experience, insight, and dedication continue to shape our organization and the communities we serve.

In this installment, we spotlight Caitlin Traub CMCA®, AMS®, PCAM®, Regional President for RealManage’s Colorado and Washington markets, whose career journey reflects a passion for mentorship, leadership development, and strengthening the community association management profession.

A Career Built Through Opportunity and Growth

Caitlin Traub’s path into community association management began more than a decade ago in the Dallas–Fort Worth market. With a background in political science, she often jokes that she found her way into the industry somewhat unexpectedly, but quickly discovered a career that offered opportunity, challenge, and meaningful impact.

She started as a compliance coordinator and steadily gained experience across a variety of roles, including assistant community association manager (ACAM), portfolio manager, and leadership positions overseeing large-scale on-site communities. Her expertise and leadership abilities eventually led her to Washington, where she stepped into an executive role as vice president of community association management.

Prior to joining RealManage, Caitlin served as president of Associa’s Washington firm, leading teams through periods of growth, operational change, and organizational development. About a year into that role, she was presented with a new leadership opportunity, this time with RealManage.

Welcoming the challenge, Caitlin relocated to the Denver area to lead operations in Colorado. Since joining the organization, she has continued to advance, progressing from Senior vice president to division president and ultimately to regional president for both the Colorado and Washington markets.

Today, she is widely recognized for her focus on employee retention, team development, and building strong, trust-based relationships with clients.

A People First Approach

While Caitlin’s leadership role involves strategic oversight and operational leadership, she says the most meaningful part of her work centers on people.

“What brings me the most fulfillment, without question, is the people management and mentorship aspect,” she says.

Supporting team members as they grow in their careers, helping them build confidence, navigate challenges, and step into new opportunities, is what she finds most rewarding about leadership.

For Caitlin, leadership is not only about achieving results; it’s about creating an environment where others can succeed and develop their own potential.

Supporting Women in Leadership

Caitlin has been passionate about mentoring women throughout her career. While the community association industry is largely female, she notes that this representation doesn’t always carry through to management and executive leadership roles.

Recognizing this gap, she has made it a personal priority to help change that dynamic wherever she has influence.

She actively seeks out high-potential women to join her teams and works to create mentorship opportunities that support emerging leaders. At the same time, she has been intentional about seeking out strong female mentors for herself and collaborating with other women executives to build networks of support.

For Caitlin, mentorship isn’t something that happens passively—it requires effort and intention.

“It has to be an active practice,” she says. “It doesn’t happen on its own.”

Changing the Conversation Around Leadership

Women in leadership often balance multiple responsibilities, both professionally and personally. Caitlin believes the first step in navigating these realities is acknowledging that the experience of leadership can be different for women.

Research and lived experience show that women often carry a larger share of emotional and domestic responsibilities outside of work, even while managing demanding professional roles. In addition, women leaders frequently navigate additional considerations around perception, communication, and expectations in the workplace.

Awareness of these dynamics, both individually and societally, is an important part of addressing them.

One perspective that resonates strongly with Caitlin comes from Sheryl Sandberg: “I want every little girl who’s told she’s bossy to be told instead that she has leadership skills.”

For Caitlin, reframing those narratives and recognizing leadership potential in women and girls is a key step toward lasting change.

Lifting the Next Generation of Leaders

For women looking to grow into leadership roles, Caitlin offers several pieces of advice rooted in both experience and observation.

First, don’t be afraid to ask for opportunities or advocate for your own potential. Studies often show that women are less likely to apply for roles unless they meet every qualification, while men are more likely to apply when they meet only a portion of the requirements. Caitlin encourages women to believe in their abilities and pursue opportunities even when they don’t check every box.

She also emphasizes the importance of mentorship. Finding a strong female mentor, and being willing to ask for guidance, can be transformative for career growth.

Finally, she encourages women to pay that support forward. Mentorship and advocacy shouldn’t stop with one generation of leaders.

Sometimes it can feel like there is limited room for women at the top. But when women actively support one another, share opportunities, and advocate for emerging leaders, the path forward expands for everyone.
